A couple of options have been discussed for a KVM Forum 2011. This page will list the currently discussed options to make it easier to compare and continue discussing the options.

== Scope ==
KVM is an industry leading open source hypervisor that provides an ideal
platform for datacenter virtualization, virtual desktop infrastructure,
and cloud computing.  Once again, it's time to bring together the
community of developers and users that define the KVM ecosystem for
our annual technical conference.  We will discuss the current state of
affairs and plan for the future of KVM, its surrounding infrastructure,
and management tools.  So mark your calendar and join us in advancing KVM.

== Type of conference ==
== Call For Papers ==
Two types of conference have been proposed so far:
The official Call For Papers will be posted shortly, please keep an eye on this spot for updates.

=== KVM Forum 2011 ===
== Registration ==
Keep the old conference format as a KVM only event. This would most likely be a single track running over 2 or possibly 3 days. Estimate for number of attendees for this event would be around 80-100. This is based on KVM Forum 2010 numbers.
The registration procedure is being worked out, please watch this spot for updates.

=== Open Source Virtualization 2011 ===
== Hotel and Travel ==
Create a broader conference focusing on the entire Open Source Virtualization stack. This would be a multi-track conference running over 2 or 3 days. Estimate for number of attendees for this event would be 200-250 (this is a guess).
Please see the LinuxCon North America page for details on hotels and travel.

Subjects could include:
* KVM
* QEMU
* Management tools
* libvirt
* Guest agents
* Other relevant topics

The format for this event could be a two track conference running over two days, structured like this (example):

{|border=1
| '''Day''' || '''Track 1''' || '''Track 2'''
|-
| 1 || KVM || libvirt
|-
| 2 || QEMU || Management tools & Agents
|}

== Venues ==
In order to keep cost down, the ideal solution would be to co-locate the conference with another Open Source conference. If we decide to co-locate with the Linux Foundation, there are two options.

=== Vancouver in August ===
The 3rd Annual LinuxCon North America is scheduled for August 17 - 19, 2011 - Vancouver, Canada. According to the Linux Foundation space is available and fairly unlimited for our requirements, whether we decide to for for a KVM Forum style conference or a larger Virtualization conference.

Cost is lower as conference rooms are cheaper/free, and the KVM or Virt conference could be run prior to LinuxCon with no overlap.

=== Prague in October ===
The 1st Annual LinuxCon Europe is scheduled for October 26 - 28, 2011 - Prague, Czech Republic. LinuxCon Europe is also co-located with the Kernel Summit (October 24-26), the Linux Embedded Conference and possibly another event.

Space is limited and we would not be able to get room for more than 170 people, max, which we would probably rule out a larger Virtualization conference. In addition we only be able to get rooms for either 24-25 which would overlap with Kernel Summit, or 27-28 which would overlap with LinuxCon.

Note that in addition the room cost is higher in Prague.

=== Independent hosting ===
The third alternative would be to host the conference independent of the Linux Foundation events, which would mean we cannot benefit from the help we would get from LF, plus cost would be significantly higher.
